Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
