Former NFL QB Mark Sanchez Fighting for Life Following Knife Attack
Ex- National Football League quarterback and television network personality Mark Sanchez remains in serious condition after suffering stab wounds in the overnight hours of Friday within the city center of Indianapolis.
Law enforcement responded in the early hours of Saturday to a site in the vicinity of Washington and Senate streets after two persons sustained injuries, one of them now identified as Sanchez.
Officers representing the city’s police answered a call about an incident reported as a “altercation in an alleyway” around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. One individual suffered stab wounds, with another injured party also present.
The former athlete was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, based on available information. The motive behind the incident is not yet clear. The suspect involved has been detained.
At 38 years old, Sanchez was in Indianapolis prior to the Sunday game between the Colts and Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium, which he was scheduled to broadcast for Fox Sports. Starting in 2021, he became part of Fox as a commentator for NFL games and appears on FS1 studio shows.
Earlier in his professional life, Sanchez played 10 seasons in the NFL on multiple teams, such as the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys. His retirement came in July 2019 and shortly after started contributing with ESPN’s college football coverage before transitioning to Fox.
Off the field, Sanchez tied the knot with Perry in 2023. They are parents to three children.
