Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in response for a significant and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the US has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
