Citizens have gathered across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted offensive on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the discussions said that an late session of mediated discussions began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the day's discussions ended without tangible results, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He noted that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are making efforts to close the differences between the two sides.

Critical Matters in Talks

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future management of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young Hagar - whose family member lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas fighters - told: "No place seems like home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their backing for the relatives of the hostages. Israel states 48 remain in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Activist one woman remarked: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the captives to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Surveys now consistently show that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens desire the conflict to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to pay their respects.

From there, the noise of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, attacks were documented in the dawn of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the night arrives, the fear comes with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis said another two victims had been transported. An individual was died by Israeli forces while seeking assistance to the southern area, medics said.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
