President Trump Invites Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to the White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president informed journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the government to suspend asylum applications and cease granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she also intended to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
