In the wake of a pivotal victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, the reigning world champion has substantially reduced the margin in the driver's standings. He now finds himself just twelve points behind leader McLaren's Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, the scene is set for a thrilling three-way championship battle at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

The incredible part of this late-season charge so impressive is the margin he has come back. Following the Zandvoort round in late August, he was an enormous over a century of points behind the championship leader his rival and had essentially conceded his championship hopes.

The shift began with substantial technical upgrades introduced by his team at the Italian Grand Prix. Changes to the vehicle's underbody and aerodynamic package rectified ongoing balance issues, allowing the driver to push to the limit with the chassis once more.

"We have triumphed where maybe the odds were against us, by making the correct decision as a team," he explained. "The partnership with my team on the pit wall and the whole team... we are deeply connected."

With the paddock arrive in Abu Dhabi, the mathematics is perfectly defined.

• The championship leader can secure his first-ever world title if he outpaces both Verstappen and Piastri or takes a top-three position.
• The challenger needs victory and needs that his rival places fourth or lower.
• Oscar Piastri, who is by 16 points, needs a victory and see Norris finish sixth or worse.
