Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
