The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
