The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
