Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Nuggets lost 147-123 to the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an inadvertent coming together with team-mate Jones.
Jones stepped on the foot of the MVP, who instantly went down to the ground holding his knee.
The 30-year-old, that is leading the NBA season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to incurring the injury.
The player will undergo an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the issue.
"Instantly, he realized there was a problem," stated Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, right now, I'm more concerned primarily about him personally and the letdown of going through an event of that nature."
