Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial championship series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player anywhere that I want up in that situation other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
